Project Reflection

When I look back on this project, I am most proud of my interview paper. I feel as if I delivered my theme and my interviewee’s perspective very effectively throughout the paper. I interviewed my mother, which made the interview very close to my heart. This made it somewhat easy to express strong feelings and emotions throughout my paper. I felt I expressed the pain and intensity of the events through my essay very clear. In my paper, I tried to follow somewhat of a story line to follow and also included a lot of background. This would create a clear image for the reader to feel as if they were there. In this paper, delivery was my main concern and in the end result, I was happy with what the paper turned out to be.

The main challenge in my paper was piecing my background knowledge, quotes my interviewee said, and in general creating the paper. Due to the fact, there were little to no guidelines I struggled with what the paper was supposed to look like.  To prevent this, I could have asked more clarifying questions to better my understanding to better my paper. When the project was first presented, I was confused about how the seminar would show my knowledge and how to conduct the whole project. I soon became comfortable with the project after conducting my interview. But throughout the paper, I struggled with in general creating the paper and making it flow. I had a hard time piecing the paper together without it sounding choppy. But after my rough draft, I was able to create a good smooth paper I am proud of.

My main take away from this lesson is how adolescence and becoming yourself is so important. In my interview, my mom spoke on how her childhood was so rough and how she was forced to grow up too fast. So from this, I learned that I need to slowly grow up and not rush into anything. I also need to be grateful for what I have and who I am. Lastly, to speak out and ask for help. In the interview, my mom talked about the hardships she was in and how she wanted to give up hope. But instead, she changed what was wrong in her life and grew from that to the person she is today. And I admire that very much.

I would give myself an 8.5 because I met all the requirements but lacked some details. There is always room for improvement I think. I believe I deserve this grade because in class I worked very well, rarely getting distracted, and put in extra time at home. I put in a lot of dedication into this paper and tried my hardest to show my points and explain my interview clearly.

Venezuela Refugee Crisis Project Description

In this project, we mocked an official MUN conference. Each student selected a country; I was chosen, South Africa. Then we performed vigorous amounts to notetaking to acquire background knowledge in our country. We then were given our crisis; the Venezuelan refugee crisis. Each student gained their countries stance and wrote a speech that was later presented to the class. This conference allowed all countries to express their feelings on this crisis and allowed debate just the real MUN conferences.

Policy Paper

Although, many believe that the presidency of Maduro has had a vast impact on Venezuelan residents, South Africa believes there are many pros, not just economically but has a large number of benefits to their economic standpoint in the United Nations.

Since the year 2010, this has been the biggest recorded refugee crisis. The Venezuelan Refugee Crisis has caused over 4 million Venezuelan citizens to be forced to move to other neighboring countries. On June 2nd, President Chavez decided to call an “economic war” due to the many shortages reported in Venezuela in past years. The prices in daily items have increased which has caused many of the Venezuelan citizens unable to provide not just for their families but for themselves. The 4 million citizens have decided to travel by foot to neighboring countries looking for a better life and an easier way to support themselves and their families not under Maduro’s laws. South Africa wants to create a safe, sane, and impactful solution not just for Venezuela but other countries involved. South Africa is one of the last remaining allies of Venezuela. South Africa is currently standing behind Maduros decisions and is still remaining an Ally.

South Africa believes there should be a peaceful ending to this crisis instead of making Maduro leave his presidency. South Africa fully backs up the solution in which the other members of the UN provide funds to try and save Venezuela and support wishes the citizens have advocated. They are looking into having a peaceful and fair ending for all countries involved and affected in this situation. South Africa is currently battling 10 other countries on this solution and does not want issues with other countries on their standpoint. Venezuela and the 3 other countries involved voted against the US resolution while the other 9 countries voted

for the US resolution. “Nine countries voted in favour of the US resolution – Germany, Poland, Peru, US, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Dominican Republic, and Kuwait, while South Africa, Russia, and China voted against and Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, and Côte d’Ivoire abstained.” (Maverick Paragraph 10). South Africa wants to conduct a fair and easy end to this solution like the other countries.

Project Reflection

In this project, I found many interesting parts. But most of all, I liked the MUN conference. This was the most enjoyable part because I felt as if I was able to display my learning in this lesson very effectively. I enjoyed the disagreements in this as well. I thought this was a very interesting take to display learning too. I felt extremely engaged in this whole project because I felt a connection to this project. I am very into politics and world issues and thought this related to my life very much too which made this more appealing to me.

In this project, I gained a huge amount of knowledge. Especially about the Venezuela Refugee Crisis. This project made you dig extremely dip into each and every aspect of this crisis. This also taught me really good research skills. Throughout the research, I was able to dig into small aspects that added up to make my research and speech very s=strong. This also gained my knowledge of the questions after the speech. I was able to have answers to questions asked and was able to participate in discussions due to the vast amount of research I did.

I felt very prepared actually. But I feel as if I did not participate in the amount I would have liked. I struggled with inserting myself into the conversation. Personally, looking back onto this project I wish that I would have participated and added comments throughout due to the amount of information and things I wanted to say. I feel as if I was prepared but was not able to show that at the conference and it honestly did not show the level of preparation I was in this project.

In the next MUN conference, the main thing I want to change is the level of participation. I need to be able to insert myself and add more comments to the conference. I feel as if I would have added comments and participated more I would have gotten a much better grade. So for the next MUN conference, I will make sure to add many more comments throughout the whole conference. Next, I want to add more evidence and quotes to make my positions stronger and make me sound more knowledgable. Lastly, I want to work on my presentation skills and seem more confident while presenting.
